Competitions!
There is a long history of competition in Lindy Hop and swing dance and Flying Home is excited to continue that tradition with several different competitions. This year we have two free late night competitions that are mostly for fun and two mix and match competitions that are $10 to enter and have bigger prize
Flying Home’s Fanciest Feet
It’s you against the world, or at least all those brave enough to jump in our solo contest.
All who wish to participate will get on the floor and competitors will be tapped out until final 5, then get voted off one by one, until only one person claims the title of Fanciest Feet!
Competitors will be challenged in a wide range of tempos, both fast and slow. Judges will be looking for solo jazz movement & aesthetics, musicality, quality of movement, creativity, style, presence, personality/character, interactions with fellow competitors, and magical moments.
Free, no registration required
Open to everyone of all levels, except workshop instructors. (Intro lesson instructors are welcome!)
Open Mix and Match Competition
Mix and match, the lindy hop luck of the draw.
During prelims, competitors will dance to three songs of varying tempos with three different rotating partners and judged individually. At finals, finalists will be randomly paired and judged as a partnership. All couples will warm up in an all-skate, dance a 1.5 min spotlight, and end with a final all-skate.
Competitors will be judged on lindy hop aesthetics, partnership, musicality, quality of movement, creativity, style, presence, personality/character, and magical moments.
$10 per contestant

Flying Home’s Fastest Feet
Our infamous Fastest Feet competition is back! Grab a partner and dance to increasingly faster music until only one couple gets crowned Fastest Feet of Flying Home!
As this is a lindy hop weekend, we want to see you swing the F* out. All couples will be dancing at the same time and will be tapped out as you lose steam. Competitors will be judged on good partnership, quality of movement and dancing on beat.
Free - walk on as a pair, no registration required

Newcomer Mix and Match Competition
The mix and match is an improvised partner dance competition. Which partner will you draw? What songs will you dance to? You won’t know until you do it, but that’s all part of the fun! If you’ve never entered a lindy hop contest before, or find the open level competitions very intimidating, this is the competition for you!
During prelims, competitors will dance to three songs of varying tempos with three different rotating partners and judged individually. At finals, finalists will be randomly paired and judged as a partnership. Finals will be danced in an all skate format with all couples dancing at the same time.
We want you to have fun, dance to the music, and dance with your partner. In addition, judges will be looking for lindy hop aesthetics, good partnership, musicality, creativity, presence, and personality/character.
$10 per contestant
Open to anyone who has not previously made lindy hop competition finals in the role you are competing in. You may only sign up for one mix and match competition in each role.
